Professional Experience
Prior to joining Lydecker | Diaz, Ms. Smith was a trial attorney for the State of Florida Department of Children and Families where she prosecuted
parents who abused, abandoned, or neglected their children, and litigated dependency and termination of parental rights cases.
Educational Background
Ms. Smith obtained her Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law in 2009 and her Bachelor of Science in Political Science, with honors,
from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica in 2006.
While in law school, Ms. Smith served as an Editor for the St. Thomas Intercultural Human Rights Law Review, and was active in the Moot Court and
Mock Trial Programs. Ms. Smith served as both a competitor and coach for the Moot Court Team, and wrote the brief for the winning team in the 2008
Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition. Ms. Smith also served as an intern to the Honorable Chief Judge David Gersten of the Florida District
Court of Appeal, Third District. Ms. Smith was also the recipient of book awards in Appellate Advocacy and Legal Thought.
Bar Admissions and Professional Memberships
Ms. Smith is admitted to the Florida Bar, as well as, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Ms. Smith is actively involved in various voluntary bar associations including the Dade County Bar Association, Wilkie D Ferguson Jr., Bar
Association, and Caribbean Bar Association where she currently serves as Secretary and Board Member. In March 2011, Ms. Smith was elected to
serve on the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors as a representative for the 11th Judicial Circuit.
