Professional Experience
Elina Basham is an associate in the firm’s Miami office. She practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, construction litigation, business torts, and professional malpractice.
Elina was born in the former Soviet Union but immigrated to the United States at five years old. She grew up in Boca Raton, Florida. Elina then attended the University of Miami where she received a Henry King
Stanford academic scholarship. She went on to graduate, with honors, in 2007 with an A.B. in Political Science, and a minor in Business Law. While at the University of Miami, Elina was a member of the UM
Debate Team, with whom she competed in regional and national competitions for the University. Elina won many accolades as a debater, including the Top Speaker award at the 2007 University of Miami-Miami
Dade College Debate Tournament. Elina also interned on several political campaigns as an undergraduate, including Rod Smith’s 2006 Campaign for Governor and Bill Nelson’s 2006 U.S. Senate Re-election campaign.
Upon graduation, Elina worked full time as a political fundraiser when she served as the South Florida Finance Director for the FDP.
After working in politics, Elina went on to attend the Frederic G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida in 2008. During her law school career, Elina was actively involved in extra-curricular activities.
She was a Contributing Editor for the Florida Entertainment Law Review, received honors, and subsequently served as a Teaching Assistant for Legal Research & Writing and Appellate Advocacy. She also worked as an extern
at the Eighth Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office where she advised clients of their legal rights and assisted Public Defenders in trying cases. Elina was also a member of the Association of Law & Business, where
case summaries she authored were published in the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar’s Journal. Elina also served as an ambassador to prospective and incoming students as part of the Introduction to the Law School
and Legal Profession program. Further, Elina was a member of the John Marshall Bar Association, the Student Recruitment Committee, and served as a research assistant for the revisions of UCC Article 7 Sale of Goods
to the Business Section of the Florida Bar’s committee on same.
